Age is real—but so much less important than we think it is! I want a world in which we claim our age without shame—or pride—alongside other identifiers. A world in which no judgements or assumptions fall into place the moment we learn how old someone is. A world in which age is no barrier and conveys no privilege. In which age is neutral. In which age is irrelevant. That’s the world Baroness Sally Greengross envisioned.

An internationally recognized expert on ageism, Ashton Applewhite is the author of This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism. A co-founder of the Old School Anti-Ageism Clearinghouse, she speaks widely at venues that have included the United Nations, and the TED mainstage, and is at the forefront of the emerging movement to raise awareness of ageism and to dismantle it. In 2022 the UN+WHO named Ashton one of the Healthy Aging 50: fifty leaders transforming the world to be a better place to grow older.
